The Pocket Camera, released by Nintendo in 1998 as a peripheral for the Game Boy Pocket, is an accessory that can only take rough monochrome photos of 14,336 pixels (112 pixels vertically by 128 pixels horizontally). Although it can only take low-quality photos that cannot be compared to modern digital cameras or smartphone cameras, it is still popular among some enthusiasts, and photos taken with the Pocket Camera sometimes attract attention.

An accessory that allows you to use such a pocket camera on your PC is 'GB Operator'. GB Operator is a device that allows you to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges on your PC, and by using the open source emulator mGBA and the game cartridge management app Playback , you can play Game Boy titles. In addition, with GB Operator, you can back up your save data and transfer photos taken with your pocket camera to your PC.

Epilogue, the developer of GB Operator, has announced that it will update its Playback app to allow users to use their pocket camera as a webcam. Epilogue has released a live feed of the video captured from the pocket camera on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Additionally, Epilogue told games media Time Extension, 'Live feed from your pocket camera is now available! There are still a few tweaks and configuration options to be made, but we were excited to finally get it working and wanted to share the update with our users. We can't wait to see you all having fun with the feature. Your pocket camera is the worst and best webcam ever.'

There have been attempts to turn a pocket camera into a webcam in the past, but they required multiple devices, such as a Super Nintendo or a Super Game Boy to play Game Boy software on the Super Nintendo, a device to convert composite video signals to HDMI, and a capture board for PCs. GB Operator is much smarter than these.

The update to enable the use of GB Operator's pocket camera as a webcam is only described as 'coming soon,' with no detailed schedule given.
