Google launches Music AI Sandbox, a music generation AI tool that lets you create music just by specifying genre, tempo, etc. in text

At the developer event 'Google I/O' held on May 14, 2024 local time, Google announced ' Music AI Sandbox ', an AI tool that can create loop sound sources with simple prompts, change the genre of melodies, and suggest melodies from complex text. Several musicians are working on Music AI Sandbox, and demo sound sources created with Music AI Sandbox are also available.

As part of the Google I/O announcement, Google DeepMind said, 'Together with YouTube, we've been building the Music AI Sandbox, an AI tool that will transform the way music is made. We've worked closely with musicians, composers, and music producers to design and test it. The Music AI Sandbox is also being used to develop Google DeepMind's generative music technology, including Lyria , Google DeepMind's AI model specialized for music generation.

You can learn more about how to use the Music AI Sandbox by watching the movie published by Google DeepMind's YouTube channel.

In the movie, musician and music producer Wyclef Jean plays a simple melody on guitar.

After loading the melody into the AI, I typed in 'Braziliran.' Then, while maintaining the basic melody, music with a different impression was played.

John said, 'Music creation is about playing a melody over and over, expanding it into a whole song, and exploring to find a landing point somewhere. The Music AI Sandbox gives you a melody and a prompt to show you a landing point. This tool can speed up the process of getting what's inside of me out.' Next, lyricist and composer Justin Tranter comes up with a number of ideas, such as 'sweaty,' 'gritty,' and 'creative,' and then works on the resulting melody with the vocalist until he is satisfied with it, creating the song.

You can listen to the song Tranter created with the Music AI Sandbox below. 'I'm excited to share my experimental demo, 'Handle This,' created with vocalist Brush and music producer Sean Wasabi. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to draw inspiration from Google DeepMind and YouTube's Music AI Sandbox to create this particular segment of the demo,' Tranter said.

'What I find useful about AI is that it can fill in the sparse elements of a loop,' said electronic musician Marc Rebillet.

Mr. Rebillet has released a demo sound source named 'Google-made loops,' or 'Gloop (group).' It is a loop of melodies of various instruments that are connected together, and Mr. Rebillet said, 'Ironically, the combination of looped sound sources made by AI will eventually sound human.'
