The US military successfully completed a combat test between the AI autonomous fighter 'X-62A' and a human-piloted 'F-16'

The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is promoting the ' Air Combat Evolution (ACE) ' project to commercialize AI-equipped fighter jets. Based on ACE, DARPA is developing a modified 'F-16' aircraft called the 'X-62A' that incorporates AI, and announced the successful flight test of the X-62A on February 13, 2023.
After its first flight in February 2023, the X-62A will conduct 21 test flights by April 2024, with more than 100,000 lines of source code modified. Below is a picture of the X-62A undergoing a software update.
Then, on April 17, 2024, a battle test was conducted between the X-62A, which is autonomously flown by AI, and the F-16, which is piloted by a human. During the test, the X-62A flew at 1,200 miles per hour (about 1,931.213 km) and approached each other to a distance of 2,000 feet (about 609.6 meters). However, the outcome of the battle has not been revealed.
Although a human pilot was on board the X-62A as a safety measure in case of an emergency, no situation requiring a human pilot to operate the aircraft arose during combat testing.
