According to Bloomberg, Apple has ended a long-term project to design and develop its own smartwatch displays and is moving to review dozens of jobs in the United States and Asia.
The display that Apple was aiming for was one that used microLED technology and was supposed to feature 'brighter, more vivid visuals.' microLED is a miniaturized version of an LED, and is a technology that allows for more precise light emission control and higher image quality. Google secured the technology by acquiring a microLED manufacturing company, but Apple built its own manufacturing facility near Apple Park and was proceeding with design and development in-house.

However, microLED is a much more difficult technology to realize than OLED, and Apple's development seems to have been difficult. As of 2018, Apple's microLED development project was codenamed 'T159' and was expected to be installed in the iPhone and Apple Watch someday, but the cost and complexity of the development process It seems that the plan was canceled because it turned out to be too big.
