Malicious methods of guiding dating partners to restaurants using matching apps and aiming to increase restaurant profits are becoming widespread.

Dating using matching apps is not uncommon in 2023, but matching apps are sometimes used for purposes other than dating, such as to involve others in fraud or other crimes. TikToker Nosy reported that unusual and malicious methods are frequently occurring on dating apps, and issued a warning.

Restaurants Are Using Tinder Profiles to Lure Diners In

According to the woman Nosy spoke to, the man she was communicating with asked her out on a date and said, ``I want to go to this restaurant.'' The woman went to the restaurant, but her date wasn't there and he didn't respond to her messages asking about his whereabouts. The woman had no choice but to eat alone and go home, but after that she learned that another woman who had visited the same restaurant had the same experience as her.

This is a scam known as 'food digging,' which preys on people's love and romance in order to lure them out to restaurants.

Nosy has confirmed that various people have fallen victim to this scam, and the common ones are ``The other person was using a fake profile'' or ``The other person asked to go on a date at a specific location.'' I'm talking to you.

It is not known whether the staff at the restaurant the woman visited was guilty of any wrongdoing. However, there have been cases in the past of restaurants luring people through matching apps, and Nosy shared the news that ``a restaurant in Delhi used a matching app to lure men.''

Nosy said, ``Food digging is a recurring phenomenon in India, especially in Delhi. Restaurants are using various dating apps to lure people in. It's insane.'' Similar damage has been reported on the Internet bulletin board Reddit, where people who ate alone and had to pay high prices left sad comments.
