In November 2022, South Korean news outlet SBS Biz reported that 'Meta has entered into negotiations with LG to secure the supply of OLED microdisplays for future headset releases.' The high pixel density of OLED microdisplays enables higher resolution and more compact headsets.

In addition, South Korea's Mainichi Keizai Shimbun reported that ``Meta has entered into an extensive partnership involving LG and its subsidiaries to manufacture the next Quest Pro.'' According to this, LG will be in charge of manufacturing headsets using components developed by affiliated subsidiaries. The first product from the partnership between Meta and LG is scheduled to be released in 2025, and will cost around $2,000 (about 290,000 yen).

The report quotes an industry insider saying that the name of this headset jointly developed by Meta and LG will be 'Quest 4 Pro', but UploadVR, a VR/AR related media, said, 'This name can be used. It is likely that the product name will be 'Quest Pro 2', considering Meta's naming rules and product line so far.

This isn't the first time Meta has partnered with an experienced electronics manufacturer to develop a VR headset. Meta's Oculus Go, announced in 2017 and discontinued in June 2020, is a VR headset manufactured by Xiaomi in China. Additionally, Oculus Rift S, released in 2019, was co-designed and manufactured by Lenovo. Both VR headsets feature partner company logos on the side and the Oculus brand logo engraved on the front.

This isn't the first time the headset developer Big Tech has teamed up with a Korean hardware company. Google has announced a project in partnership with Samsung to jointly develop a new AR/VR headset.

According to this report, the inexpensive VR headset that Meta is planning to release in 2024 is not made by LG, and it is estimated that the price will be less than $ 200 (about 29,000 yen). However, UploadVR points out, ``Considering that even the Quest 2 from three years ago had a selling price of $300 (about 44,000 yen), it is difficult to believe that such a cheap VR headset will appear.''
