Thermos iced coffee maker 'ECI-661' review that allows you to make fragrant iced coffee in just 5 minutes with one button

In the hot summer, I would rather drink cold iced coffee than piping hot coffee, but brewing and preparing iced coffee yourself is a bit of a hassle as it takes time to cool down freshly brewed hot coffee. The iced coffee maker ' ECI-661 ' from Thermos, a company known for thermos bottles, is said to be able to easily brew iced coffee with the push of a button, so I tried it out.

The package of ECI-661 looks like this. ECI-661 is available in two colors: 'Deep Roast' and 'Caramel', and the one we will be reviewing this time is Caramel.

When I opened the lid, there was a measuring cup attached.

ECI-661 main body

It is 18 cm wide x 32.5 cm high, and when compared to a 1 liter milk carton, it looks like this.

There is a coffee server at the bottom.

The server looks like this. It looks like a cold water pot you see at restaurants. The material is also made of resin and is quite light. The capacity is 0.66 liters.

The lid can be removed by turning it 180 degrees. The server is simple overall, there are no rubber gaskets, and there is no structure to improve airtightness.

Right side of ECI-661. It comes with a water meter for the water tank.

Left side of ECI-661

There is a steam vent on the top.

The top part is a lid, and it opens like this.

The dripper is removable and has a handle.

Behind the dripper was the lid of the water tank. Pour water for iced coffee from here.

The inside of the main body lid looks like this. There is a hole for sending steam to the dripper.

A warning sticker and power cable are on the back of ECI-661. The power consumption of ECI-661 is 400W.

Let's make some iced coffee right away. First, check whether the dripper is properly attached to the ECI-661 body.

There are two directions for installing the dripper: front and back. As shown in the image below, it is OK to install it so that the unevenness of the main body and dripper match.

Fold the trapezoidal paper filter and place it in the dripper.

Add the ground coffee beans using the included measuring spoon. One measuring spoon equals one cup.

Next, open the lid of the water tank and pour in water. The amount of water is about 180cc for 3 cups, and about 300cc for 5 cups.

The water meter on the right side has a scale that shows how much water is required for 3 to 5 cups.

After pouring water, close the main lid.

Next, add plenty of ice to the coffee server.

There is a tier labeled ``Kori'' inside the server, and fill it with ice to the full height of this tier.

After filling with ice, close the lid of the server and set it on the ECI-661 main unit.

All you have to do is press the 'ON' button on the front of the main unit. When pressed, the area around the button will glow green. All you have to do is wait about 5 minutes for 3 cups or 7 minutes for 5 cups. When the drip is finished, a beep will sound and the light on the button will go out.

You can check the sequence of actually making iced coffee with ECI-661 in the following movie.

Pouring freshly brewed iced coffee from the coffee server. The server is light and doesn't drip easily, so I found it very easy to pour. Also, I poured it into a cup immediately after brewing, and since it was quickly cooled with a large amount of ice, the iced coffee was cool from the start, aromatic, and clear.

After pouring, I opened the lid of the server and looked inside. Since it has a double layer structure, the ice did not melt even if it was left at room temperature for about 3 to 4 hours.

The dripper and filter look like this after filling. The dripper has a handle, so all you have to do is grab the handle, remove it, and quickly replace the filter, making it very easy to use. Almost everything, including the main body, is made of resin, so it won't break if dropped and is easy to clean.

Thermos' ECI-661 is also available on Amazon.co.jp and can be purchased for 2880 yen including tax at the time of article creation.
