I tried using Kokuyo's 'Hakoake,' which can be used as a cutter knife or scissors in an instant with one hand, making unpacking a breeze.
When opening a cardboard box that is tightly sealed with duct tape, it is best to use a utility knife, and when undoing the straps on the contents, scissors are the best. I was looking for a product that combined these two tools, and I discovered KOKUYO's ' Hakoake .' Apparently, Hakoake can be quickly switched between utility knife and scissors mode with one hand, so it seems just right for unpacking work. I had this on

This is the package for 'Hakoake.' Hakoake comes in a variety of blade types and body colors, and the one I got this time was the 'Titanium Blade Khaki.'
The main body of the Hakoake looks like this. The words 'scissors', 'cutter' and 'lock' are printed on the top, and there is a hole in the lower right corner of the main body for passing a strap through.
This is what it looks like when you hold it. It's 113mm long and 28mm wide, making it easy to hold in one hand.
To pull out the blade, first push in the grey part that sticks out from the main body.
While pressing it in, slide it upwards and the blade will come out.
Slide it to the 'cutter' position to turn it into a cutter knife.
Slide it to the 'scissors' position to turn it into scissors. It clicks into place and locks into place, so the blades won't move around during use.
Let's actually try using it. This time, we will use a box that is wrapped like this.
Place the box cutter on the cutter knife and press the blade against it.
Just pull it smoothly and you can cut the tape.
Next, open a paper bag like this.
I placed the box cutter on the scissors, placed the blade on the tape, and made a scraping sound to cut the grey part.
After cutting the tape, we tried cutting the paper bag itself. The paper was about 1-2mm thick, but with a little force we were able to cut it without any problems.
We also had an editorial staff member try out the Hakoake when he was looking for scissors to open a bag of cocoa. The editorial staff member
You can see it in action in the video below.
In actual use, it is indeed surprisingly convenient to be able to instantly switch between scissors and a utility knife, and it is a good point that you can use one tool to open boxes and cut small items with scissors. However, the short blade of the utility knife is a bit of a drawback. The Cardboard Saw Logistics-kun has a long blade, so you can easily insert it into the gaps between boxes, but the Hakoake blade is only about 3mm long, so it was a bit difficult to fit the blade exactly into the gap. Another unfortunate point was that the blade would frequently retract when pressure was applied to the tip of the blade.
'Hakoake' can be purchased from Amazon.co.jp. The price of the 'Titanium Blade Khaki' used this time is 1,082 yen including tax.
