This is a class action lawsuit that was consolidated from lawsuits filed by multiple plaintiffs in May and June 2018. The plaintiffs allege that Apple turned a blind eye to reports of a defect in the butterfly keyboard that could cause the keyboard to become unusable even if it was clogged with even a small amount of dust as far back as 2015, and continued to sell MacBooks with butterfly keyboards.

As part of the settlement, Apple will pay the plaintiffs $50 million. According to the lawyers, plaintiffs who needed to replace multiple keyboards will receive between $300 and $395, while those who only needed to replace one keyboard will receive up to $125, and those who only needed to replace one keycap will receive about $50.

Although the case has been settled, Apple denies that it 'knew about and concealed the defects.'

The settlement requires approval from a judge, and at the time of writing, the matter is pending approval.
