In 2022, Apple and the plaintiffs reached a settlement in which Apple agreed to pay $50 million (approximately 7.2 billion yen). Customers who purchased MacBooks, MacBook Airs, and most MacBook Pro models in seven states (California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Washington) between 2015 and 2019 will receive $50 million, minus legal costs.

It has been revealed that the above settlement money will finally start to be paid in August 2024. According to information on a website related to the lawsuit, the court issued a payment order on June 27, 2024, and the refund will be made in August 2024.
Those eligible for a refund will be paid up to $395 (about 57,000 yen). Michael Burkhardt, a reporter for 9to5mac, an overseas media outlet, who is also a refund recipient, said , 'I received a check for $395 on August 3, 2024.'
