The Unicode Consortium has announced the top 10 most used emojis in 2019 as well. The table below shows how much the top 10 in 2021 went up and down compared to this time. The rankings of 'laughing and crying,' 'red heart,' and 'gassho' do not change. 'Laughing' goes from 4th to 3rd, 'Thumbs Up' goes from 10th to 4th, 'Crying' goes from 8th to 5th, 'Throwing Kiss' goes from 9th to 7th, 'Heart' 'Smile' has risen from 16th to 8th, while 'Eyes are Hearts' has dropped significantly from 3rd to 9th.



According to the Unicode Consortium, 'laughing and crying' emojis account for more than 5% of all emojis used. The only emoji used at a level comparable to this is the 'red heart'. Comparing the 2019 ranking with the 2021 ranking, there is almost no difference in the emojis ranked in the top 10. In fact, the emojis that rank in the top 100 most used emojis account for 82% of the total number of emojis used.
