Discord hints at the introduction of NFT and burns, and the founder explains that 'there is no plan'
Discord founder Jason Citron announced on Twitter on November 10, 2021 that he has no plans for a non- fungible token (NFT) business. Discord has previously conducted a survey on NFTs and posted a screenshot on Twitter that looks like a screen of Mr. Citron introducing a crypto asset service on Discord, which is a concern from Discord users who oppose NFTs. The voice was rising.

In August, Discord conducted a questionnaire asking what they think about web3 and NFT, which are Internet concepts centered on blockchain technology. On the other hand, there was a negative voice on Twitter.

In addition, Discord CEO Citron posted a screenshot of the screen on November 9th, which looks like the integration of Discord with Ethereum, a crypto asset wallet, and MetaMask, a crypto asset wallet. According to overseas media The Verge, this screen is for a hackathon event held in-house, not for a service that is actually under development. The literal translation of 'probably nothing' in a tweet means 'I'm sure it's not a big deal,' but it's also a slang word used to ironically say a big deal.

Some Discord users who saw these movements as 'Discord is considering the introduction of crypto assets and NFTs' strongly opposed. 'Platforms that claim to support all Internet users and content creators shouldn't support fraudulent ones,' Citron tweeted.
A platform claiming to support all types of internet user / content creators can't turn around and support what is obviously a polarizing scam. Https://t.co/BfA1UQv0ZN pic.twitter.com/6gfrwUHi6L

Others have posted screenshots of the cancellation screen for Nitro , Discord's subscription service.

A lot of posts were posted on the online bulletin board Reddit asking them not to support NFTs, and a thread was set up on Discord's support forum saying 'Because I'm a posterity, stay away from NFT trash cans.'
In response, Citron said on Wednesday, 'Thank you for all your feedback. So far, we have no plans to roll out this internal concept. Currently, we protect our users from spam and fraud. While Web3 has many advantages, large services like Discord have a lot of problems that need to be resolved first. I'll explain in more detail later. ' In addition to tweeting, he made a similar statement through TechCrunch, an IT news site, stating that he has no concrete plans to introduce NFT to Discord.
Thanks for all the perspectives everyone. We have no current plans to ship this internal concept. For now we're focused on protecting users from spam, scams and fraud. Web3 has lots of good but also lots of problems we need to work through at our scale. More soon.
