'EGRET II mini' photo review that revives a masterpiece arcade game played in arcades in the palm of your hand
From the game maker Taito, the game machine 'EGRETⅡ mini ' that can play the games that were active in the game center from 1978 to 1990 will be released on March 2, 2022. 40 titles of classic arcade games of the past are recorded in the body with the motif of EGRET II of the arcade game housing (Kyotai), and the EGRET II mini that can be played on a TV or monitor with HDMI output is one step ahead. I had the opportunity to touch it, so I took a closer look first.

The EGRETⅡ mini body looks like this. The motif, EGRET II, is an arcade game cabinet made by Taito that appeared in 1996.
The actual weight of the main body was 1086g. Since the EGRETⅡ mini that you will experience this time is a model under development, the design, size, weight, and specifications may differ from the actual product.
The size is 155 mm wide x 200 mm deep x 209 mm high. It looks like this when comparing the size side by side with a short can of coffee.
There is a panel labeled 'EGRET II' at the top, and the logo 'TAITO' is placed between the two speakers below it.
Most games are played on the horizontal screen, but some games, including shooting games, are also played on the vertical screen. The EGRETⅡ mini is not only based on the motif of an arcade game housing, but also has a major feature that allows a monitor with an aspect ratio of 4: 3 to be placed horizontally or vertically. First, push the EGRETⅡ mini monitor firmly.
Then, the monitor pops out, so rotate it 90 degrees clockwise.
When I pushed the monitor again, it became a vertical screen.

The holes on the top are for attaching the instruction panel. In this instruction panel, you can insert a reduced version of
The original EGRET II had two sets of levers and buttons on the left and right, but the EGRET II mini has only one set. There are a lever that can input in 8 directions, 6 buttons, a start button (center pink), a CREDIT button (center blue), and a MENU button (center white).
I actually touched the lever and button. Although the main body is small, it is not difficult to input levers and buttons. The feeling of pressing the button and the repulsion and lightness of the spring give the impression that it is similar to that of the button used in the actual arcade game housing.
The left side of the EGRETⅡ mini looks like this.
At the bottom of the left side is the SD card slot. 40 kinds of games are installed in the EGRETⅡ mini main body, but it is said that 10 more kinds can be played by inserting a dedicated SD card called 'expansion set'.

The back looks like this.
At the bottom of the back is a power switch, a USB Type-A port for 1P pad input, a USB Type-A port for 2P pad input, an HDMI output port, a 3.5mm audio output terminal, and a USB Type-C port for charging.
On the bottom are four rubber legs and a lever that allows you to switch the stick lever input between 8 and 4 directions.
And the control pad that can be connected to the EGRETⅡ mini looks like this. The direction keys are a disk type that can be input in 8 directions, and there are 6 buttons of 3 types x 2 rows.
Including the cable, the actual weight is 138g.
It was never too big or too small to hold in my hand.
At a later date, I will post a review of actually playing EGRETⅡ mini.
In addition, EGRETⅡ mini is accepting reservations at Amazon.co.jp.
