Bill and Kelly Chiles, a married couple living in Alamosa, Colorado, USA, purchased a Sony digital SLR camera, the ' α1 ,' on Amazon for work. The α1 is sold for 880,000 yen including tax on Sony's official online store , but it was sold for $7,000 (about 770,000 yen) on Amazon. However, what arrived to the couple was an empty box with nothing inside.
The local media The Denver Channel interviewed Bill and his wife, who ended up purchasing an empty box for about 770,000 yen, and the following movie talks about their feelings at the time.

In southern Colorado, farmers take photos of all kinds of events, such as weddings and graduations, whenever they have the chance. For this reason, photography is a common side job for farmers in the area. Bill and his wife, who bought their camera on Amazon, also work as photographers on the side.

'I've bought a few cameras from Amazon in the past and never had a problem with them,' Bill said.

Bill bought the Sony α1 as a tool for his side business. 'It's a 50.1 megapixel camera with a large data capacity, and it's capable of high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at up to 30 frames per second,' he said. 'I like to stay on the cutting edge of the times.' Bill explained the reason for his purchase of the α1.

Due to a global semiconductor shortage, it took about two months for Amazon to ship the Alpha 1.

And finally the α1 arrived. For some reason, there were two packages of the α1...
The package was empty. 'I've heard of this happening with third-party deliveries, but I've never heard of anything like this happening with an official Amazon purchase,' Bill said.

Bill also asked Amazon for a refund, but Amazon responded that they could not refund the camera because it had already been verified. When Bill contacted Amazon's customer support to get a refund, they said, 'There's nothing more we can do for you, so we're going to disconnect you,' and they cut him off.
Bill checked the delivery history of UPS, which delivers Amazon products, and found that the weight of the delivered product was 2 pounds (about 910 g).

However, according to Sony's official website, the package weight of the Alpha 1 is 3 pounds (about 1.4 kg), so Bill says, 'Someone stole the Alpha 1 at some point.'

Bill filed a complaint with local police and contacted The Denver Channel to dispute Amazon's claim for payment, which led to this interview.
When The Denver Channel contacted Amazon, the company responded by saying it had 'launched an investigation.'
