I tried playing 'Dicey Dungeons' to capture randomly generated dungeons with dice luck on allies on Nintendo Switch

' Dicey Dungeons ', a game that aims at the deepest part of the dungeon while fighting according to the dice roll using 6 characters with different abilities, appeared on Nintendo Switch on December 16, 2020. I was wondering what kind of battle the strategic element of building a deck according to the character's ability and the luck element of the dice roll are fused, so I actually played it and checked the game.

The title screen of Dicey Dungeons looks like this. The person in the back is Lady Luck, who hosts the game show 'Dicey Dungeons' where you can fulfill your wishes if you clear it.

The first time you play Dicey Dungeons, you will be playing with a 'warrior'. The warrior who participated in 'Dicey Dungeons' to fulfill his wish will be transformed into a dice by Lady Rack.

The dungeon that the warrior challenges looks like this. The dungeon is divided into 6 levels in total, and while defeating the monsters placed in each level, move from the 'exit' in the red frame to the lower level and defeat the boss waiting at the bottom of the dungeon. The purpose of this game is to get you to fulfill.

You can move freely to each square, but you cannot move to the square where the monsters are placed. To move on, press the A button to start the battle with the monsters.

This is the battle screen of Dicey Dungeons. On the player's turn, the equipped item is displayed in the center of the screen. At the bottom left of the screen, the gauge for using the health value and limit break is displayed, and on the right side, the randomly rolled dice are displayed.

Players can act every turn until they run out of dice. The effect of each action depends on the roll of the dice. For example, if you use 6 dice for 'Sword +', which has the effect of 'Dice roll +1 damage to your opponent', you can deal 7 damage to your opponent.

Like the player, the monster acts according to the dice roll, so if you are unlucky, you may receive a lot of damage from the monster. On the other hand, if you are lucky with the dice, the damage will be kept low.

When you receive damage, the yellow gauge at the bottom left of the screen accumulates, and when the gauge reaches the maximum, you can activate a 'limit break' that differs depending on the character. The warrior's limit break is a 'rage' that has the effect of 'doing the next action twice', and if used properly, the formation can be reversed at once.

In the following movie, you can see how you actually use a warrior to fight monsters.

Shops where you can buy equipment in the dungeon ...

There are facilities such as blacksmiths where you can strengthen your equipment, and you can purchase or strengthen equipment that suits your strategy.

The following is the deck construction screen. You can use the obtained equipment during battle by putting it in the 'Equipped' column at the bottom right of the screen. Each piece of equipment has a size of 1 or 2 squares, but you can only equip up to 6 squares at a time, so you need to choose the most suitable equipment according to your strategy.

In Dicey Dungeons, you can control 6 characters. The abilities of each character are quite unique. For example, a 'robot' can roll one dice by pressing the ZR button, whereas the dice are normally rolled automatically at the beginning of the turn.

In addition, the 'calculation gauge' placed on the right side of the screen accumulates according to the dice roll, and when the target value displayed on the right side of the gauge is reached, you can use powerful techniques. You can see how the robot actually fights in the following movie.

In addition, you can enjoy completely different battles for each character, such as 'witch' who fights using the magic registered in the 'magic book'. The witch was a character whose strategy was more important than luck compared to other characters, because it was very important to build a 'magic book' that was equivalent to the deck of other characters.

A powerful boss awaits you at the bottom of the dungeon.

In addition, each character has multiple 'episodes' that challenge the dungeon under various conditions. For example, in one of the episodes 'Greedy Curse' prepared for a warrior, instead of possessing the powerful equipment 'Battle Ax +' from the beginning, a 'curse' that randomly misses the attack is applied. You can challenge the dungeon.

When I actually played the episode 'Greedy Curse', 'Battle Ax +', which deals damage of 2 dice rolls, is very powerful, but the attack was missed frequently. On top of that, I had bad luck with the dice, so I was quickly eliminated.

When I actually played Dicey Dungeons, it was a game in which the strategic element of building a deck and the luck element of rolling dice were well balanced. The dungeons are randomly generated, and the placement of monsters and the equipment available will change each time you play. In addition, 6 characters with different abilities are prepared, so you can enjoy a fresh feeling of play every time you play. Furthermore, depending on the character used, dice luck is emphasized and deck construction is emphasized, so it was a recommended game for those who want to enjoy a chewy strategy game and those who want a casual time-killing game.

Dicey Dungeons will be available on the My Nintendo Store for ¥ 1520 starting December 16, 2020. You can also get the PC version on Steam .
