Announcing the prototype 'XB-1' of a supersonic passenger aircraft that flies at Mach 2.2

Boom Technology, an aircraft manufacturer based in Denver, USA, unveiled the supersonic aircraft ' XB-1 ' on October 7, 2020, local time. The company has already started pre-sale of the supersonic passenger aircraft 'Overture,' which is scheduled to fly for the first time in 2026, and the XB-1 is a prototype of it.

This is the XB-1's aircraft, and by the side is Blake Scholl, the founder and CEO of Boom.

The XB-1 has a total length of 71 feet and a wingspan of 6.40 meters.

The maximum speed is Mach 2.2, and it is possible to fly from London to New York in just 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Designed by General Electric (GE), the three J85-15 engines boast a thrust of £ 12,000.

The carbon composite airframe can maintain sufficient strength and rigidity even when exposed to high temperatures and stress due to supersonic flight.

The XB-1 is a prototype of the supersonic passenger aircraft Overture, which is scheduled to fly for the first time in 2026, and Japan Airlines (JAL) has also invested in Overture.

If Overture is realized based on the knowledge obtained from XB-1, it will be possible to fly from San Francisco to Tokyo in 6 hours. This is twice as fast as current commercial aircraft.

'The realization of supersonic travel has long been promised. The difference between past supersonic aircraft and the XB-1 is that it has all the technology needed to make supersonic travel unique. The supersonic jet of the design is here. It's not a drawing or a CG, it's an airplane designed to be safe for humans to ride. '

Scholl also commented on the outlook: 'The aviation industry has been

severely damaged by the new coronavirus infection, but air travel will eventually come back. It may take a year or even years. No, but when that time comes, airlines will look for opportunities for growth and differentiation, 'he said, saying that supersonic travel will be in the limelight as the industry recovers from the pandemic blow. Was shown.

Overture is expected to be a 55-75 passenger plane, and if the plan goes well, it is expected to start commercial flights in 2029.
