' Relativty ' is an open source project that allows you to create your own VR device that is compatible with platforms such as SteamVR. It is said that it is possible to make a VR headset in the price range of 50,000 yen to 100,000 yen with a low budget of about 200 dollars (about 21,000 yen).

Max Coutte, who develops Relativty, said that he bought a VR headset when he was 15 years old, but he had the experience of having to give up because he could not afford it. Also, after watching the anime ' Sword Art Online ', Coutte wanted to make a VR game by himself, and he started developing his own VR headset.

The image below shows the VR headset that I actually made taken from the goggles. Relativty is fully compatible with SteamVR , a VR game platform. You can also add support for off-the-shelf VR devices.

The place where the front lid is removed is as follows. The frame part is output by a 3D printer. Room scaling AI that detects the actual play area that can be moved while experiencing the VR space can be operated with any camera. Although the recognition accuracy and the degree of freedom of movement are inferior to the sensor dedicated to VR, it seems that it is also possible to track the movement of the body by video input by the camera.

The motherboard is a microcomputer board equipped with Atmel SAM3X8E (ARM Cortex-M3 CPU core), which was also adopted for

Arduino Due . MPU-6050 is adopted as the inertial measurement unit (IMU), and it is necessary to solder these to the printed circuit board.

Also, Relativty's firmware is based on

Arduino Core-Sam , so it's compatible not only with your own motherboard, but also with boards with processors that support Arduino Core, including Arduino Due with Atmel SAM3X8E.

Relativty headset can use dual display of 2K / 120fps. Since it is an open source project, if you modify the source code, it can handle any display as long as the computer can process it.

Relativty is being developed completely open source, and the source code is available on GitHub.
