Review of Yamazen's inverter generator 'EIGG-600D' that can be used with ordinary gas cartridges, which is likely to be useful at home during typhoon season and outdoors
Our modern lives depend heavily on electricity, from PCs and smartphones to home appliances. However, it is also true that electricity can go out due to disasters.

New cassette gas type inverter generator to be released in late May | Yamazen Corporation

The outer box of the 'EIGG-600D' looks like this.
When I opened the outer box, the generator itself was inside. Its dimensions are 47cm wide, 27cm deep, and 39cm high.
Included accessories included were an instruction manual, a Phillips head screwdriver, a DC battery charging cord, a plug wrench, and an oil nozzle.
The front of the generator has a recoil starter and a fuel cock.
The rated AC output is 600VA. It is small for a generator, but the compact design makes it suitable for storage and on-board use.
Maintenance such as adding engine oil can be performed from the side that does not have the recoil starter or fuel cock.
When I pressed the cassette gas cylinder storage cover on the top plate ...
The storage area for the gas cartridges has been revealed. Two gas cartridges can be set, and electricity can be used for about 1.5 hours at rated load. Two gas cartridges must be set, as there is a possibility of gas leakage if only one is used.
I pressed the button to open the gas bottle fixing cover and found a white bottle inside.
It contained engine oil. It was necessary to refuel it before use.
The generator's switches and terminals look like this. It has two 6A AC outlets, as well as a frequency change switch, earth terminal, and all the other switches and terminals found on a typical generator.
One thing that's unusual for a generator is that it has two USB ports, allowing you to easily charge your smartphone or mobile battery.
The EIGG-600D can also be connected in parallel. A separate cord is required for parallel connection.
An exhaust muffler was attached on the opposite side to the terminals.
When a female editorial staff member holds the EIGG-600D, it looks like this. The weight is about 14 kg, and the editorial staff member said, 'You can carry it with both hands.'
I will try to generate electricity using EIGG-600D immediately. It is necessary to refuel the engine oil at the first start ...
First, use the included screwdriver to remove the screws on the side that does not have the recoil starter and fuel cock.
Once the red lid is removed, you can now access the inside of the generator.
The engine oil filler cap is here. Just twist it like a plastic bottle cap to remove it.
Once the fuel filler cap is removed, secure the included oil nozzle.
Once the oil nozzle is fixed, pour in the included oil. Note that the engine oil you use must have a viscosity of 10W-30 or 10W-40.
Just add 180ml of oil. 200ml of oil is included, so leave a little extra.
Once you put the cap back on and replace the red lid, the generator is ready to use.
We took the generator and gas cartridges and moved to a place where there was ground where we could be earthed.
To prevent electrical leakage, attach the earth rod to the ground...
Fix the earth wire to the earth terminal of the generator.
Open the gas bottle storage cover on the top panel and insert the gas bottle.
After setting up two cassette gas cylinders...
Push the fixing cover in until it clicks into place to secure the gas cartridge in place.
Once you put the gas bottle storage cover back in place, the gas bottle setup is complete.
Next, we will prepare to start the generator. First, turn off the Eco mode switch.
Switch the frequency to match the equipment you are connecting to the generator.
Turn the fuel cock to the 'ON (open)' position.
The recoil starter near the fuel cock...
Pull it several times until the engine starts and it will start.
If the 'output' LED is lit green, the engine is running normally. The noise level during operation is about 71 dB, which is about the same as
Finally, you can turn on the eco mode switch to use the generator. Note that if you connect a device that puts a high load on the generator, you need to turn off the eco mode switch.
When I tried connecting the AC adapter to my laptop, I was able to charge the laptop properly.
It also has a USB port, so you can charge your smartphone with just one cable.
When I measured the voltage with a watt checker, it came out to 104.3V, which is slightly higher than 100V.
To test how much load it can withstand, I decided to connect an electric jigsaw with a rated power consumption of 350W to the generator.
Measure the voltage by placing a watt checker between the generator and the electric jigsaw.
When I operated the electric jigsaw, the voltage dropped to the 93V range. Looking closely at the manual, I saw that the usable range of AC power is up to about 260W for 'motors, mercury lamps, etc.' I thought that any device could be used up to 600W, but it seems that the usable range is limited when used with devices that are subject to instantaneous high loads.
When the eco mode switch was turned off, the voltage drop was limited even with the electric jigsaw.
To stop the generator engine, turn the fuel cock back to 'OFF (closed)'.
The muffler is very hot immediately after the engine is turned off, so be careful not to touch it.
In addition, it is possible to use the DC power source with the EIGG-600D to charge a car battery, etc. In that case, with the engine off, press the DC circuit breaker button and turn on the circuit breaker ...
Connect the included DC battery charging cord.
After that, just start the engine in the same way as before. Be careful, as there is a possibility of a short circuit if the plug part of the charging cord touches the battery.
If you are storing your generator for more than 30 days and will not be using it, you will need to perform maintenance such as removing the gas cartridge and starting the engine to use up all the gas inside.
In the case of gasoline-powered generators, gasoline spoils after about a year, so regular gasoline consumption is necessary, but the shelf life of gas cartridges is about seven years, which is significantly longer than that of gasoline, so the advantage of the EIGG-600D is that it requires little maintenance. Although it has weaknesses when used with equipment that is subject to high loads, its small size and easy portability make it suitable for use not only in disaster preparedness but also in outdoor activities.
