James Dyson talks about a canceled electric vehicle project that cost over 65 billion yen for private property

Dyson , who is famous for its “only vacuum cleaner with the same suction power” and fanless fan, announced in 2017 a production plan for an electric vehicle (EV). After that, it was reported that the EV development project was cancelled, but Dyson's founder James Dyson himself is talking about the EV project that was abandoned in the middle of the interview.

As of 2016, it was reported by several overseas media that `` Dyson is developing an electric car '', but in September 2017 Dyson officially announced a plan to produce a `` radical '' EV. .. James Dyson has invested £ 2 billion in EV projects (about 300 billion yen at that rate) and explained that the company's first EV will be announced in 2020.

However, in an email sent to employees in October 2019, it was revealed that Dyson's EV project was completed.

And in a new interview with The Times , a British daily newspaper, Dyson officially confirmed that the company's EV project was cancelled.

According to the interview, the code name of the EV developed at Dyson is 'N526', and it was a 7-seater EV that can travel a distance of 600 miles (about 965 km) with one charge. According to Dyson, 'It was possible to maintain this performance even when the heating and radio were turned on while driving on the highway at 70 mph (about 110 km / h) on a freezing night in February.' This high performance is supported by Dyson's proprietary solid state battery (all solid state battery). The Dyson EV was developed to compete with Tesla, and the distance that the Tesla Model S can run on one charge is 379 miles (about 609 km), the same 7-seater Model X as the N526. In the case of 314 miles (about 505 km), N526's high battery performance is remarkable.

The N526 weighs about 2.6 tons, but since it uses aluminum for the chassis, it can accelerate to 100km / h in just 4.8 seconds from a stopped state. The maximum speed is about 200 km / h. It has two 200 kW electric motors, has a braking horsepower of 536

BHP and a torque of 480 lb-ft .

A prototype EV has also been developed in the EV project, and Mr. Dyson also revealed that he tried it. From Dyson's EV patent , it was predicted that the EV developed by the company would be similar to a modern Range Rover .

The specifications of the EV developed by Dyson were far more ambitious than the conventional EV. Dyson says he spent £ 500m on his private fortune before being forced to cancel the project.

The Dyson EV was canceled at the project stage, but according to Dyson, more than 500 teams involved in EV development are already working on various other projects. In addition, it is said that plans are underway to allow automakers to use all-solid-state batteries developed by the company that are more efficient and compact than lithium-ion batteries.
