AMD announces 7nm designZen 2 architecture APU `` Ryzen Mobile 4000 '' series for notebook PCs

CES 2020 held from January 6 to 10, 2020 , chip maker AMD announced the third generation APU `` Ryzen Mobile 4000 '' series for mobile terminals such as notebook PCs . By adopting the CPU core of the Zen 2 architecture7 nm manufacturing process, it is said that the performance has been greatly improved from the previous generation and the power consumption has been suppressed.

Developed under the codename 'Renoir', the Ryzen Mobile 4000 series is the world's first mobile

x86 processor to use TSMC's 7nm manufacturing process.



The Ryzen 4000 series has three types: the U series, which emphasizes space saving, the H series for gamers and creators, and the PRO series, which pursues space saving and performance.



The U series Ryzen 7 4800U has eight Zen2 architecture CPU cores and eight Radeon Vega CUs, has 16 threads, and has a rated frequency of 1.8 GHz (4.2 GHz when overclocked). While the number of cores has doubled from the second generation Ryzen 3000 series, the CU seems to be less than the previous generation, but AMD emphasized that the process node can provide performance beyond the previous generation . The TDP (thermal design power) is 15W.

Core i7-1065G7 and Ryzen 7 4800U is as follows. In the graphic performance comparison using the benchmark by Cinebench R20 and the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark , the score of Ryzen 7 4800U was higher than Core i7-1065G7.



In other comparative tests, AMD claimed that the Ryzen 7 4800U outperformed the Core i7-1065G7.

Comparing the performance per power consumption between APU generations, the third generation APU showed more than twice the performance of the second generation.



In addition, AMD has already partnered with PC maker Lenovo and announced a new model of

Lenovo Yoga 'Yoga Slim 7' with Ryzen 7 4800U.
