I tried to compare how the new 9.7-inch "iPad Pro" is changing from the past iPad

9.7 inches was released on March 31, 2016 "IPad Pro". The same model with the same 9.7 inch display as the conventional iPad can use special accessories such as Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard as well as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, as the name of "Pro" is. It has become a high-spec model that can shoot the first 4K movie of the iPad. I tried to compare this 9.7 inch iPad Pro side by side with the past iPad in order to see what kind of appearance change it is doing.

I tried aligning the past iPads kept in the editorial department of GIGAZINE with the slurries. From the left, the first iPad, the new iPad (3rd generation iPad), the iPad Retina display model (4th generation iPad), iPad Air, iPad Air 2,9.7 inch iPad Pro, 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

In the same order as above, this time shoot the back of the terminal. The back of the rose gold that is second from the right is the one of the new 9.7 inch iPad Pro.

I tried to display the page of GIGAZINE. The 9.7 inch iPad Pro, the second from the right, has a wide color gamut True Tone display, which makes it possible to express a wider color gamut than ever before.

From the left, arrange the iPad Air · Air 2 · 9.7 inch iPad Pro and this way. 9.7 inch iPad Pro that is well expressed in the light yellow of the background of the GIGAZINE page on the far right.

Compared to iPad Air 2 (left) and 9.7 inch iPad Pro (right), it looks something like this, the appearance design does not change much from iPad Air 2.

From the left, silver of iPad Air and gold of iPad Air 2, and rose gold of 9.7 inch iPad Pro. For the 9.7 inch iPad Pro, you can choose your favorite color from all four colors with space gray added to them.

The Apple logo on the back is made of stainless steel and reflects what looks like a mirror because it is mirror finished. This stainless steel logo is now used from the iPad Air ......

On earlier iPads Apple logo was black.

From the bottom, I tried stacking in order of the first iPad, the new iPad (3rd generation iPad), iPad Retina display model (4th generation iPad), iPad Air, iPad Air 2, 12.9 inch iPad Pro, 9.7 inch iPad Pro . The new 9.7 inch iPad Pro is placed at the top because the camera is protruding. With the thickest first iPad, iPad Air 2 · 12.9 inch iPad Pro · 9.7 inch iPad Pro looks as thin as anything. According to the official specifications, iPad Air 2 and 9.7 inch iPad Pro are 6.1 mm thin and 12.9 inch iPad Pro is 6.9 mm.

If you compare iPads in the same order, compare power buttons & volume control buttons like this. From the first iPad to the fourth generation iPad, black plastic material was used for the power button and the volume control button, but metallic parts have been used since iPad Air. Also, there is no mute button on iPad Air 2 and later terminals.

Compared with the top, it looks like this. Although the earphone jack on the left end and the power button on the right end are unchanged from the first generation, the two iPad Pro are also characterized by the speaker being arranged also on the top.

The bottom is like this. The terminal for charge / synchronization of the terminal from the 4th generation iPad is changed to Lightning port rather than 30 pin port.

There was nothing on the left side of the terminal so far ... ...

In the two iPad Pro Smart Connector that connects Smart Keyboard and iPad Pro is arranged.

It is like this when rear camera is arranged. There was no camera on the original iPad.

IPad Air 2 (front) · 9.7 inch iPad Pro (left) · 12.9 inch iPad Pro iSight camera compared. The 9.7 inch iPad Pro has become a model that can shoot the first 4 K movie of the iPad, and features the back camera part protruding like the iPhone 6/6 Plus / 6 s / 6 s Plus.

The in-camera has always been placed at the center of the top of the display from the new iPad.

Home button corresponds to Touch ID which is only 3 fingerprint authentication functions of iPad Air 2, 9.7 inch iPad Pro, 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

I tried to compare the resolution of the display, but the pixel density was the same except for the first generation, the same 264 ppi.

Primary iPad: resolution 1024 × 768 (132 ppi)

New iPad: resolution 2048 × 1536 (264 ppi)

4 th generation iPad: resolution 2048 × 1536 (264 ppi)

IPad Air: Resolution 2048 × 1536 (264 ppi)

IPad Air 2: Resolution 2048 × 1536 (264 ppi)

9.7 inch iPad Pro: resolution 2048 × 1536 (264 ppi)

12.9 inch iPad Pro: resolution 2732 × 2048 (264 ppi)

Although the appearance design does not change much from the previous model, I was concerned very much that only the rear camera of the 9.7 inch iPad Pro protruded when stacking and arranging multiple iPads.
