Amazon finally gets a test flight permission from Drone and takes one step toward realizing drone delivery

FAA issued a license to Amazon as "Experimental Airworthiness Certificate". This is a certificate permitting test flight of Drone in the United States, Amazon will be able to carry out Drone flight experiment in private place in Washington State in the future. Amazon has carried out flight experiment of drone so far, but because it has air regulation, it was carried out outside the United States. In addition, FAA also decides to exempt flight restrictions applied to common drones against Amazon's drones.

However, Amazon required a flying altitude of 500 feet (150 meters) or less, but the airworthiness certificate issued by FAA stipulates that the drones' flying altitude is less than 400 feet (120 meters), Amazon's Request did not pass. Also, since airworthiness certificates are issued only for certain drone owned by Amazon, even if Amazon develops a new model drone, it can not do a test flight with that drone.


In addition, the drone pilot is obliged to possess the qualifications of a private pilot and the medical certificate of a doctor. Even though we have obtained permission, there are still many restrictions, but until now test flight was not even allowed, so FAA measures can be said to be a big step for Amazon to deliver drones.
