The final round of `` Red Bull Air Race '' called `` Sky F1 '' has started, I have spoken with Yoshihide Muroya

The “ Red Bull Air Race ” called “F1 in the air” was revived in 2014 after a three-year pause from 2011, with a further improvement in safety. Red Bull Air Race 2014 Spielberg, the final round to determine the 2014 Series Champion, will open in Austria at Red Bull ’s knees, Austria, and report on the striking battle of the sky from the field.

'What is an air race?' Can be understood in one shot by watching the following movie.

Arrived at Salzburg, Austria via Frankfurt International, Germany. I heard that “Austria has a similar climate to Hokkaido”, but the evening temperature feels pretty chilly at around 5 degrees.

The final round, Red Bull Air Race 2014 Spielberg, will be held at the

Red Bull Link (formerly A1 link) in Spielberg, about 150 kilometers southeast of Salzburg.

Start moving by express bus from near Salzburg Airport.

A huge snowy mountain appears 10 minutes away from Salzburg.

There is also a castle on the way.

As you climb up the mountain, you can enjoy the snow scene.

It is completely a snow country.

However, past the mountainous area, the pastoral landscape with vast pastures continues.

Cows are grazing all over. I was eating grass on the highway without a fence.

After running for about 2 hours on the bus, we came out on a fairly paved road. As usual, cows and horses are kept on the side of the road.

Turn right at the roundabout.

Arrived at Red Bull Link after about 2.5 hours.

The weather is sunny. The temperature is 6 degrees, but it's not so cold and I wonder what the snow scene was on the way.

Arrived at the main stand.

Red Bull familiar MINI.

I will enter SKYLOUNGE.

A Formula Renault machine was on display at the entrance.

However, it is already in air race mode, including reception.

The air race is done with a propeller aircraft like this.

Nigel Lam is the top ranking in the last round. The first champion is on.

This is

Hannes Archi, who is 2nd in the ranking and aims to become the champion. Champion of the 2008 season.

In SKYROUNGE, Red Bull was distributed free of charge.

Climb a small hill from the Sky Lounge to the hanger (pit).

The tunnel under the race course is painted by

Sebastian Vettel , the fourth F1 champion.

Paste the course layout poster and make final adjustments. Tomorrow is the qualifying.

If you go up the bridge across the course ...

I saw the hanger.

The white building is the media center.

Red Bull is all you can drink here as well.

Air race specification with an illustration of Alhi.

On the hanger, commemorative photography was about to begin.

We found Yoshihide Muroya.

The players are all smiling, but the tension that the race is about to begin has finally been transmitted.

On the hanger, there is no doubt about the final setting of the aircraft.

Muroya's pit is black.

There are three types of air races, including EDGE 540 (Edge 540) made by Jibco. The engine is made by Lycoming, and the propeller is made by Hartzell.

Overall length 6.27 meters x overall width 7.42 meters x overall height 2.87 meters. Dry weight 531kg, aerobatic maximum weight 703kg.

Muroya came to me when I was looking at the hanger from a distance. Shake hands over the fence.

Friendly Muroya player.

He will guide you to the pit.

This is Muroya's pit.

The character of “righteousness”.

The aircraft had already moved to the back, but exterior parts were placed.

A banner with hot messages from fans all over Japan.

He was busy preparing for tomorrow's qualifying and responded to an interview.

Q:
The practice flight that took place today is 7th.

Muroya:
I agree. It's not so simple because it takes a lot of data, but it's a reasonable time.

Q:
Is the course straight? tricky?

Muroya:
It ’s medium. It ’s not so tight. I started over the forest, but I can't see the first gate at all. It feels like it really has a gate (laughs). The speed is limited to 200 knots (370 km), so it is tricky and difficult to get an error in speed because it enters while turning. Since the start speed is displayed, it is difficult to match it. If the speed is high, it will exceed the G limit (Note: up to 10G), so it seems that balancing the balance will be the key.

Q:
How many test flights are there?

Muroya:
3 times in all. I flew twice today, so once tomorrow. 5 times when there are many. 3 times is less.

Q:
Are there other courses held in the mountains? (Note: Most air races are performed at sea or on the lake)

Muroya:
House. Only here. It is difficult to have ups and downs. Also, the wind blows and the weather conditions are easy to change.

Q:
Is it a tough course?

Muroya:
The track setting itself is not tough, but it is a tough course in that sense because various conditions change.

Q:
Is it cold in the cockpit?

Muroya:
No, I'm sweating. Since the G suit ( G-resistant suit ) contains water, it is cold before riding (lol)

Q:
Is there water in it?

Muroya:
The water pipe goes down and drops when G is applied, so the lower body is tightened to prevent blood from falling (Note: If blood flow to the brain is interrupted, it will faint due to lack of oxygen). About 6G is the limit of a normal person. If you don't do anything special, you will black out.

Q:
Is it something special?

Muroya:
Since it is up to about 6G that can be pushed up by the power of the heart, it means to raise (blood) first so that it will not fall to cope with more G. It is difficult to raise after G is applied, so it is necessary to raise it before G and keep it. I ’m not going to keep raising it, so I ’ll raise it right before G starts.

Q:
How do you raise it?

Muroya:
Hmm, if you put your power in the toilet, you may come back. That's about how to apply power. You learned naturally during the flight. Even though you could do it in the simulated cockpit, you couldn't do it in front of the doctor (lol)

Q:
What is your normal blood pressure?

Muroya:
Good (lol) Not low. It is a normal value. If you raise it, it will go about 180 easily.

I left Muroya's pit and went to the course where the flight took place.

A red pylon in the distance. The cone-shaped pylon is 25 meters high. It is inflated with air so that when the aircraft touches, the fiber is cut instantly so that the aircraft does not get tangled.

I could see Red Bull monuments in the distance.

A number of pylons will be installed over the course, and airborne F1 qualifying will take place on October 25, 2014, local time.

The first air race pilot, Yoshihide Muroya, who is the first Japanese air race pilot, will participate in the final race of Red Bull Air Race 2014 Spielberg on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at BS SKY Perfect J SPORTS It will be broadcast live free of charge from 10pm on October 26, 2014. Stay tuned for the hot war as it will be published in the articles tomorrow.
