I tried using "AVT-C293" which makes it easy to digitize VHS and beta images without a PC

DVDs and Blu - ray are now used as media that keeps recording pictures, but in the pastVHSWas proud of its prosperity. Besides this8 mm·Betamax·MiniDVThere are many people who had tapes such as tape, but since video cassettes will definitely be bulky, it is easiest to digitize and save it to HDD.

It is "AVT-C293" that can digitize it very easily without a PC. Since I was able to borrow sample equipment this time, I tried to digitize the video by dragging out the video from the bottom of the closet.

Outer box, "nodding of kiooku" is quite excellant.

Simple operation sells anyway.

Since the cable to connect to AVT - C293 is included, we prepare only the video cassette and the equipment for reproducing it.

I will open and install it at once

There is a cable and remote control under the main unit ... ...

Expanding everything like this.

Such a thing. USB port on the front, recording lamp, power button, remote control receiver.

The size is 190 mm × 152.5 mm × 33.5 mm, the size which can be put a little on the video deck.

Weight is 432 g

Hole for exhaust heat on both sides

On the back are the video input terminal, audio output terminal, D terminal, HDMI port, AC input terminal.

And behind the main body ......

It is possible to remove a lid and set a 2.5 inch HDD.

The thickness corresponds to both 7.5 mm and 9 mm.

Since the use of USB memory and external HDD set on the front USB port is also ant, I decided to use the AverMedia USB memory that was included in this time. The capacity is 16 GB.

Connect the HDMI cable and power supply ......

Connect to a TV (this time using a monitor for PC), first set the date.

Then set the time ......

Initial setting ends as "You can use this machine"

The basic operation screen looks something like this

By the way, if you do not set up storage, you will see this message.

As the content of the USB memory or HDD used as storage is formatted, let's prepare for AVT-C293 connection only.

In order to digitize, it is necessary to connect the media to be digitized and its playback equipment. Since the video input cable is bundled with AVT - C293, connect the composite cable (left) and the supplied video input cable. S terminal can also be used.

If you insert that cable into the video input terminal on the back ......

Ready

Try to create a new file by pressing the "+" button on the remote control.

Since you connected the VCR, select "VIDEO TAPE RECORDER" at the left end of the menu.

This time, we digitize three VHS tapes.

One of them is a tape for 30 minutes. It contains images of children's recital, but it was not taken individually, but what was shot by the dealer was distributed to participants by dubbing.

All the steps are displayed on the screen, and we will proceed accordingly. First of all, check the video recording time ......

Connect player and player. This is completed so please proceed.

Turn on the deck ......

Dubbing will be done if you play the video and press decision.

The dubbing time can be set in increments of 30 minutes, and the maximum is 240 minutes (3 hours). If there is a length longer than this, or if you do not know it is OK if you do not set it.

So, when you press the play button on the video deck side and then press the "Enter" key on the remote control, the screen moves to the dubbing screen. Since the dubbing menu is displayed at the top, you can start dubbing by pressing the "red circle" button on the remote control where you want to start dubbing.

Since the tape lasts 30 minutes this time, I set it to "30 minutes dubbing". The status of the screen indicates that automatic recording is scheduled to end in the remaining 29 minutes and 38 seconds, and now that recording has been completed up to 22 seconds.

When the dubbing of this tape is over, the message "This video is content protected, it can not be dubbed" ... .... Because it is a dubbing tape by a trader, it may be content protected. As a precaution, I tried with two others, but this message did not come out.

While saying "I can not do it", the data was digitized properly. It is saved because it is a very old tape and it can not be replaced.

Try previewing and confirm that the problem is not picture.

The tape was 30 minutes long, but the actual playback time of the video was 15 minutes 29 seconds.

Since the video being played on the VCR is dubbed, this is also included in the digitized data if the playback device displays information such as "auto tracking" or "playing start" on the screen . People who want to keep characters from entering are wary.

In addition, since pausing automatically at the point where the video signal is interrupted, even if you set the length to "No setting", there is no such thing as "all the free space of the storage will be buried with sandstorm video".

As I tried this time, the file size was 800 MB in about 16 minutes and 1.6 GB in less than 30 minutes. Since error occurs when the file transfer speed is slow, it is better to use high-speed things for USB memory and HDD.

In the file format, the video part was H264 MPEG-4 AVC · 720 × 480 · about 60 fps, the audio part was MPEG AAC Audio · stereo · 48000 Hz. If you insert the used USB memory into your PC, you can play it as an MP4 file with the filename set in AVT-C293, move, copy and delete can be done freely, so you need one high-speed USB memory It may be easier to prepare and digitize it and transfer it to another storage medium via PC.
