少女が「レギンスを着替えないと搭乗できない」と対応されたことに大きな反応、航空会社が「レギンス大歓迎」と声明を発表する事態に

デンバーからミネアポリスへのアメリカの国内線フライトで、ユナイテッド航空の係員がレギンスを着用していた少女に「レギンスの上になにか着用しないと搭乗できない」と対応したことが、銃規制派団体「Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America」のシャノン・ワッツ代表によって報告されています。発信元がTwitterで、DMではなく公開ツイートであったことからこのツイートは多くの人の目にとまることになり大きな反応を呼んでいますが、ユナイテッド航空はそうする理由があったと主張しています。

ワッツさんによると、これは7時55分にデンバー国際空港を発ちミネアポリスへ向かうユナイテッド航空215便の搭乗手続きでのできごとで、ゲートの係員がグレーのレギンスを着用していた10歳の少女に、着替えるかレギンスの上へなにか着用することを求め、そうしなければ搭乗できないという対応をしたとのこと。ワッツさんはユナイテッド航空の公式Twitterアカウントに向けて、「ユナイテッド航空では女性の服装を監視しているのですか」と問いかけています。

これに対してユナイテッド航空はTwitterで少女がパスライダー、つまり「キャンセル待ちをしている(空席がある場合のみ搭乗可能)ユナイテッド航空の従業員または従業員の扶養者」であったことから、自社のドレスコードに従ってもらう必要があったと説明しています。

Twitterだけではなく公式サイトでも改めて事情が説明されていて、今回のケースはあくまでパスライダーだったから該当したものであり、一般の利用客であれば「レギンスは大歓迎」だとのことです。
