The Apple Messages Plugin allows you to connect your messaging app to ChatGPT. This enables ChatGPT to categorize, analyze, and edit messages within your messaging app. You can create, send, and delete messages, and even search for buried information within past messages.

OpenAI is promoting the Apple Messages Plugin, which allows ChatGPT to check calendars to find available times on specific dates and send messages to specific people, analyze messages to suggest follow-up messages, analyze message content to extract birthday information and add it to the calendar, and pick out spam messages that can be deleted.

Because the Apple Messages Plugin is available for the desktop versions of the ChatGPT Work and Codex apps, technology media outlet TechCrunch pointed out that it is 'suitable not only for personal use but also for business use.'

According to OpenAI, the Apple Messages Plugin runs locally on the user's machine and does not index all of the user's messages. However, TechCrunch reports that 'it is unclear what that specifically means, so we are contacting OpenAI for more details.' As of the time of writing, OpenAI has not responded.

OpenAI also encourages users to monitor ChatGPT's behavior and recommends not enabling persistent authorization. OpenAI explains that 'enabling persistent authorization eliminates ChatGPT's last chance to verify the message before sending it as you.'
