Cursor has announced 'Origin,' a code hosting service. Origin will be rolled out gradually as an initial beta to Cursor's paid plan users. Origin will offer basic features designed for agent-scale use, including repositories, pull requests, code viewing, and GitHub synchronization, with agent-native features also planned for release.

The Origin repository is accessible from the Codebase tab in Cursor. When you create a new repository, a page will appear with commands showing how to install the CLI, clone the repository, and push your local project. Once you push, the code will be hosted on Origin. Note that you need to name the codebase when creating the repository, and this name will apparently become part of the repository's URL.

GitHub repositories are available alongside repositories hosted by Cursor. Connect your GitHub to Cursor and select your organization to see the repositories you can sync. Selecting a repository will ingest it into Cursor. You can choose what to sync, and you can disconnect repositories at any time. Users with read or write access to a synced repository can also view that repository in Cursor.

Synchronized repositories are updated in real time, and you can view, search, and pull copies from Origin. Pushes continue to be sent to GitHub. For work started on GitHub, GitHub remains your trusted source of information. Icons next to each repository name indicate whether the repository is hosted by Cursor or ingested from GitHub.

Additionally, every Origin repository has pull requests. Opening a pull request allows you to view the timeline, commits, checks, and changed files. For synchronized repositories, the contents of pull requests are synchronized bidirectionally. Comments made in Cursor are posted to GitHub, and reactions and replies made on GitHub appear in Cursor within seconds. Pull requests that have been assigned a review on GitHub can also be reviewed and merged from Cursor.

Furthermore, agents are available for all repositories. Since you can manage code, pull requests, and agents all in the same place, you can ask Cursor questions about the code you're viewing, for example.

We also plan to roll out app extensions for Origin repositories, and integrations with

Vercel , Depot , and Buildkite are already available, with several more app extensions planned for the future.

Every repository has settings that allow you to check the synchronization status of your GitHub repository, manage who can access it, and see which apps are connected.

Origin will be rolled out gradually as an early beta to all paid plan users, excluding corporate organizations whose administrators have opted out.

TechCrunch, a technology media outlet, commented on Origin, stating, 'GitHub was the de facto code hosting platform preferred by the vast majority of developers. However, in recent years, GitHub has been plagued by frequent outages and performance issues, and as GitHub becomes dysfunctional, Cursor is vying for its place.'

Furthermore, GitHub recently experienced a global outage on August 17, 2026, which caused various services to go down.
