Hogwarts Legacy is a game released on February 10, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox, set approximately 100 years before the events of the Harry Potter series. Its popularity stems from its cinematic magical action and a recreated environment of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The early access bonus for purchasing the more expensive Deluxe Edition alone recorded a peak of 489,139 concurrent players, making it the second-highest-playing paid single-player game in history. After its release, it sold over 22 million copies in its first year in the United States, becoming the biggest release of that year.

Amidst this situation, Warner Bros. mentioned the sequel, 'Hogwarts Legacy 2,' in a letter to shareholders released on August 6, 2026.

In the letter, Warner Bros. stated, 'The gaming business remains a key growth driver as we achieve our long-term goals for the Studios segment (production and distribution of films, television, games, etc.).' The company cited the success of ' LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight ' and the mobile game ' Game of Thrones: Dragonfire ' as game titles released in the second quarter of 2026. Warner Bros. then stated, 'We expect the expansion of our gaming pipeline to further contribute to the segment's profitability,' adding, 'That pipeline includes the second installment of 'Hogwarts Legacy'.'



In the letter, the company revealed its strategy of 'focusing on four major franchises worth over $1 billion (approximately 160 billion yen) and investing heavily in a select few titles.' While the company did not directly specify these 'four major franchises,' based on the works it has released, they are likely to be the four brands: 'Harry Potter/Hogwarts Legacy,' 'Game of Thrones,' ' Mortal Kombat ,' and ' DC Universe (Batman).'

It should be noted that this letter merely conveys that 'Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be of great importance to Warner Bros.' gaming division going forward,' and no official announcements regarding production or release have been made on social media or elsewhere. The letter also does not mention any announcement or release date for the game.
