The graph below shows the growth rate of ChatGPT's weekly active users, starting from July 2023, for six different regions of the world. It appears that the adoption of AI was slower in Africa, South America, and Oceania compared to other regions, but they have seen a significant increase in users since 2023, narrowing the gap with the leading regions.

The following chart shows the 'rate of increase in the number of messages per user in each country' from the first quarter of 2026 to the second quarter of 2026. Countries where the number of messages per user increased are colored blue, and countries where it decreased are colored red. It can be seen that the number of messages has increased significantly in South America and Oceania.

We also found that the content of conversations differs between personal and business use. The graph below classifies the content of conversations with ChatGPT into three categories: 'production of deliverables (orange),' 'questions (blue),' and 'expressions (light blue),' showing the proportion of each. The left side represents non-work conversations, and the right side represents work conversations. Globally, 'production of deliverables' more than doubled during work hours.

In Japan, the proportion of 'creating deliverables' outside of work was 13.6%, while it was 32% during work hours.

The graph below shows the trend in the proportion of ChatGPT conversations categorized into 'Practical Guidance,' 'Writing,' 'Information Retrieval,' 'Self-Expression,' 'Multimedia,' 'Technical Support,' and 'Other.' Since the release of ChatGPT Images 2.0 in April 2026, the proportion of multimedia conversations has been increasing. As of June 2026, multimedia conversations accounted for 7.8% of all conversations worldwide.

The trend in Japan is as follows: As of June 2026, the share of multimedia is 4.6%.

The following chart shows the percentage of multimedia conversations by country in the second quarter of 2026. Usage rates are particularly high in South America, with Mexico at 10%, Colombia at 10.1%, and Brazil at 11.1%.

The graph below shows the trend in the proportion of ChatGPT users, categorized into '18-34 years old' and '35 years and older.' Globally, the number of users aged 35 and over is increasing, with over 90% of countries reporting an increase in users aged 35 and over.
