'OpenDerm' is a robotic camera that uses 3D mapping of moles to help detect lesions.

One method gaining attention for its usefulness in the early detection of skin cancer is 'regularly photographing the skin and observing changes in moles.' ' OpenDerm ' is an open-source 3D skin mapping system that makes its blueprints and software publicly available, allowing users to automatically take photos of their skin with a camera and observe changes in their skin over time.

Malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer, can develop in two ways: either an existing mole transforms into melanoma, or melanoma develops in areas without moles. One method considered helpful for the early detection of melanoma is to regularly photograph the skin.

OpenDerm is a system that combines a camera and rails to automatically move the camera while capturing images of the skin and creating high-resolution 3D maps.

This is what it looked like during filming.

The camera can be freely moved along the XYZ axes, and its angle can also be changed.

The camera is a Canon EOS R7 , and the lens is an RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM . It also features a laser sensor for distance measurement and a Raspberry Pi Pico for data processing.

On the 3D map viewing screen, moles that were not registered in past data can be displayed more prominently.
