Movie to make your own lawn mowing robot with blue diode laser module

rctestflight , a YouTube channel that performs DIY using drones and 3D printers, has created a lawn mowing robot that can cut weeds with a laser equipped with a blue diode laser module.

Mowing My Lawn with a LASER!!!-YouTube

A general lawn mower uses a motor and a cutter to cut weeds, but rctestflight is challenging to remodel this to a more near-future style.

A blue diode laser module with an output of 40W was used.

Hold the laser module in your hand and irradiate the wooden board with light.

When I moved the laser module back and forth, smoke rose from the wooden board at one point.

Prepare a Pentax M mount lens ......

Combine with the laser module.

Then I succeeded in burning weeds and dandelions.

The hem of the trousers worn by rctestflight is also melamella.

Ice sticks can also be easily snapped off.

This is fixed on the pedestal with the

stepping motor . The operation of the stepping motor is controlled using Arduino, which makes it possible to automatically swing the laser module left and right.

Succeeded in cutting weeds cleanly by setting the swing speed of the laser module quite slowly and operating it for a long time. In addition, it is designed to stop operation in an emergency by installing an acceleration sensor so that animals such as raccoons do not damage the animal's eyes when crossing in front of the laser module.

However, the initial design pointed the laser toward the ground, which could burn the ground and lead to a fire, so the laser module had to be tilted slightly upward, says rctestflight. Also, the laser module needs to be fixed to the pedestal and used, but the range where weeds can be cut is about 6 to 8 feet (about 1.8 to 2.4 meters) and it seems that it is short of practicality.

In order to make it possible to cut weeds in a wider range, I made my own laser module with 24 blue diode laser modules. The laser module is self-made by attaching a high-output LED module to

StratusLEDs , which can be easily self-made.

This makes it possible to adjust the output of the irradiated laser on the software. In addition, it seems that the maximum output of the laser module that combines 24 blue diode laser modules made by rctestflight is about 80 to 120 W.

A laser module that glows mysteriously in blue

Multiple giant lenses are prepared to converge the laser emitted from this laser module to one point.

As a result, while maintaining a high cutting force in the part where the laser is converging, it seems that it will be safe even if human hands touch it in the part where the laser is diffusing.

Weeds will burn with lasers.

Succeeded in cutting flat. However, since this is also fixed and used, the range that can be cut is limited.

Therefore, the following lawn mowing robot with a laser module attached to a

caterpillar type radio control that rctestflight made in the past was finally completed. The laser module installed in the radio control is not the one with high power or the one with the camera lens, but the 40 W output blue diode laser module used first.

As shown below, weeds can be cut with a laser and the cut weeds can be sucked.

This completes the robot that can cut grass while running around the garden.
