Meta's AI research arm, 'Meta Superintelligence Labs,' has been advancing the use of AI by announcing the multimodal inference model 'Muse Spark 1.1' and introducing 'AI Mode' to Facebook . At the same time, they also emphasize the principle that 'people need tools to identify AI-generated content.' In the first half of July 2026, they released a research demo of an AI identification tool that can detect whether an uploaded image was created with Meta's AI.

As part of a similar initiative, Meta has announced its signing of the EU's Code of Conduct on Transparency for AI-Generated Content under the AI Law. The AI Law came into effect on August 1, 2024, and is being rolled out gradually, with the application of related provisions expected to begin in 2026.

Article 50 of the AI Act stipulates four obligations: 'When interacting directly with an AI, inform the other party of this fact,' 'Include a machine-readable mark to indicate that the content was generated by an AI,' 'Notify the other party if an emotion recognition or bioclassification system is being used,' and 'Clearly disclose if you are using deepfakes or AI-generated text that will be published as information of a specific public interest.'

In signing the agreement, Meta stated, 'Through AI partnerships and forums, we are committed to developing AI-generated content identification solutions that are durable, technically feasible, and sustainable. Transparency measures that bring clarity, not confusion, must be implemented. We must avoid a situation where online content is bombarded with overwhelming labels and disclosures, while simultaneously increasing regulatory complexity for providers. As technology standards continue to evolve, we will work with the AI Office and other partners to ensure that this approach is practical, interoperable, and truly beneficial to the target audience.'
