Several employees, including the senior director of the safety and security department, have been arrested and indicted in connection with the incident. eBay has fired all employees involved in the incident, but has acknowledged that the acts themselves were committed by its employees and has been fined $3 million (approximately 490 million yen).

According to a statement from Scully Murphy, the law firm representing the plaintiffs, Steiner and others reached a settlement on July 27, 2026, local time, regarding a civil lawsuit concerning an incident that occurred in 2019. The civil lawsuit targeted not only eBay as a company, but also three executives and other employees, including then-CEO Devin Wenig, COO Steve Weimer, and Senior Vice President (SVP) of Global Operations Wendy Jones.
As part of the settlement, the plaintiffs will receive a total of $48.7 million (approximately 7.96 billion yen), consisting of $46.15 million (approximately 7.55 billion yen) from eBay, $2 million (approximately 327 million yen) from former CEO Wenig, $500,000 (approximately 81.8 million yen) from former SVP Jones, and $50,000 (approximately 8.18 million yen) from former COO Weimer.
In addition, eBay will make a total of $6 million (approximately 981 million yen) in charitable donations to various non-profit organizations. Former CEO Wenig plans to donate $1 million (approximately 163 million yen) to the organization of Rudolf Steiner, which works to protect the rights of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Settlements have also been reached with the other employees in addition to the three executives, each on their own terms.
Furthermore, the settlement does not include any confidentiality clauses, meaning that the Steiners can publicly discuss the incident.
