Reddit users have reported that entering search operators like 'site:claude.ai/share' into Google brings up a large list of shared conversations.

According to Futurism , the leaked chat content included 'detailed medical reports of actual patients,' 'clinical trial results including patient names,' 'documents sharing the names and phone numbers of elementary school-aged children,' 'internal documents marked for internal use only,' and 'employee evaluations containing employees' personal information.' Fortune also reported that code, work notes, and adult content violating Anthropic's policies were also found.
This issue is believed to stem from Claude's 'chat sharing' feature. 'Chat sharing' allows users to create a shared link for a chat, which anyone can access by opening the link. Chat sharing is intended for use with friends or small groups, and is not intended for public access on the entire internet.
In addition, Google indexed personal websites and some vibe coding apps in the form of ' Claude Artifacts ,' a feature that allows users to save specific projects as standalone apps or tools. However, Claude Artifacts warns users that 'once published, it becomes accessible to anyone on the internet and may appear in search engine results.'
A similar issue arose with OpenAI's ChatGPT in August 2025. However, the Shared Links feature of ChatGPT, which allowed users to share chats via links, had an experimental option at the time to 'index in search engines.' This option was later removed because it was deemed to have increased the chances of users accidentally sharing unintended content, but the display of shared chats in search results was a feature that OpenAI intended.

Anthropic told the media, 'Shared links only appear in search results if the URL is posted in a location that search engines can recognize, such as a forum or social media post. Links sent to individuals will not appear in search results.'
In a statement, spokesperson Amy Rotherham added, 'We allow users to control whether or not their conversations on Claude are public, and in line with our privacy principles, we do not share chat directories or sitemaps with search engines like Google. These shareable links cannot be guessed or discovered unless the user chooses to share them. If someone shares a conversation, its content becomes publicly available and, like any other public web content, may be archived by third-party services.'
This issue was first pointed out by a Reddit user on July 25, 2026, and was first reported by 404 Media on the morning of the 27th. As of the afternoon of the 27th, searching using the method reported on Reddit yielded no results. This suggests that the chat leak by the search engine has been repaired in some way.
