It was announced on July 27, 2026, that this new Firefox design is now available in Firefox Nightly. To use Firefox Nightly, go to the download page and click 'Download'.

Once you launch the downloaded installer, the installation will start automatically.

Once Firefox Nightly starts, click 'Continue'.

This is what Firefox Nightly looks like. The new Project Nova design is already applied.

Below, the top image shows the regular Firefox, and the bottom image shows Firefox Nightly with the new design applied. In Firefox Nightly, the selected tab is rounded and has a gradient, making it easier to see.

Also, the image below shows Firefox Nightly, and the various icons have been slightly changed to be more rounded.

The plans announced for Project Nova included a 'revamped settings screen,' but as of the time of writing, there haven't been any major changes other than the selected menu being more rounded.

Furthermore, Project Nova brings back the 'Compact Mode' that was removed from Firefox in 2021. You can adjust the 'Window Density' setting under 'Appearance' in the settings menu, choosing from 'Automatic (Default),' 'Standard,' 'Compact,' and 'Touch.'

Below are images of the Standard, Compact, and Touch versions, arranged from left to right. The differences aren't very noticeable, but choosing Compact displays tabs and menus smaller, allowing you to use more screen space, while choosing Touch makes the tabs slightly larger, making touch operation easier. You can adjust the settings to suit your environment.

The new Firefox Nightly design is in beta, and Mozilla is soliciting bug reports, feedback, and questions about the new design. Based on user feedback, the new Firefox design is scheduled to be widely rolled out in the second half of 2026.
