A daring individual has taken Apple's wireless earbuds, AirPods, and mounted them on a frisbee to create a motion tracker.

Someone has come up with a clever idea: they've inserted Apple's genuine wireless earphones,

AirPods , into a hole they've drilled in a frisbee (flying disc) and are using it as a motion tracker for the frisbee.

AirPod frisbee tracker makes backyard throws scientific

On July 20, 2026, Reddit user Pablo Shallahn reported on 'Kinapod,' a system that uses AirPods to track the throwing of flying discs.

To use Kinapods with a flying disc, make a hole in the center of the flying disc large enough for the stem of the AirPods to fit through, insert the stem end, and secure it so that the main body sticks to the surface of the flying disc.

AirPods are equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes, which measure the user's movements and position and reflect this in their operation and sound. Kinapod utilizes these sensors as motion trackers for a flying disc, collecting data such as the disc's rotation speed, release speed, and hang time in real time during the throw.

The data collected by Kinapod can be viewed on a smartphone app. Furthermore, if you keep the other AirPod in your ear, the app can read out statistical information.

According to Shallahan, the AirPods weigh less than 5 grams, and when attached to a flying disc, the difference in weight was barely noticeable when thrown. He said that no problems were observed with the AirPods even after hundreds of throws, but Shallahan acknowledges that Apple does not recommend 'attaching AirPods to a flying disc and throwing it,' so several months of testing would be needed to determine their durability.

In addition to being mounted on flying discs, Kinapod can also be used as a running tracker by clipping it under the laces of running shoes. The beta version of the Kinapod iOS app can be downloaded from the following page, and it is expected to be released on the App Store in the next few days.
