Facebook has launched 'Facebook Verified,' a verification system to prove that users are 'humans, not bots,' allowing users to verify their identity with a selfie, and it's free of charge.
While X and Facebook have long had a large number of bot accounts that mechanically generate posts, improvements in AI capabilities have led to a surge in 'AI bot accounts that are indistinguishable from human accounts.' In response to this, Facebook has added a feature called ' Facebook Verified ' to prove that users are human.
Introducing Facebook Verified
The Facebook Verified verification screen is shown below. Only a selfie is required for identity verification; no identification documents are needed. There is no fee.
For verification, simply take a selfie of your face at the angle indicated.
Once verification is complete, a verification badge will appear to the right of your name on your profile screen. The verification badge will also appear on the Marketplace and Groups screens, and will be displayed on feed posts in a future update.
However, it's important to note that Facebook Verified is merely a feature that proves 'the user is a human and not a bot,' and does not indicate that 'the user is a trustworthy human.'
Facebook Verified is currently available in select regions and will be rolled out globally in stages.
