According to Mark Gurman, an expert on Apple information, the devices eligible for 'Apple Upgrade' are iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. The lease period is 24 months for iPhones and Apple Watches, and 36 months for iPads and Macs. Users can upgrade their device to a newer model during the lease period, and can also return it early if they no longer need it. Similar to car leases, the device must be returned at the end of the lease period, but it is also possible to have it taken back and continue using it.

Apple offers the 'iPhone Upgrade Program,' a 24-month installment plan that bundles a device with AppleCare+ and allows for device upgrades along the way. However, with the launch of 'Apple Upgrade,' new registrations for the 'iPhone Upgrade Program' are expected to be discontinued.

Apple Upgrade does not include AppleCare+, and some devices such as the iPhone 16, Apple Watch SE, and MacBook Neo are not included in the lease program.

Apple had previously planned a lease sales program separate from the 'iPhone Upgrade Program,' but according to Bloomberg, it was canceled in 2024.

Bloomberg reports that partnering with Klarna allows Apple to deploy its program without incurring any financial burden.

Incidentally, Apple recently announced a price increase for its devices, which could lead to increased demand for leasing.
