It has been discovered that when certain LG monitors are connected to PCs running Windows 11, an LG app is automatically installed without the user's consent. This app is being criticized for behaving like adware.

According to several reports, after connecting some LG monitors to Windows 11, Windows Update installs LG driver updates and a management app called 'LG Monitor App Installer' on the PC. This app does not contain any special functions and simply displays links to other LG apps and McAfee antivirus software.

Tech YouTuber Gamers Nexus reproduced this phenomenon with the ' LG UltraGear 34GX900A-B '. Gamers Nexus tested apps by starting the monitor 32 times in a row, and 31 of those times a McAfee promotion appeared, and the remaining one time a promotion for LG's own monitor utility appeared. Gamers Nexus also reported that a similar pop-up appeared on the 'LG UltraFine 32UN880-B' which he purchased in 2023.

In the past, Dell has also been reported to have a similar behavior where, upon detecting a compatible Alienware monitor or peripheral device, it would install an application called 'Alienware Command Center.'

Microsoft explains that 'device manufacturers can configure apps to automatically install when a user connects their device to a PC,' but also warns that 'the automatic installation feature does not display a notification to the user, which may confuse and frustrate some users, potentially leading them to give the app a bad rating.'
