According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Live Notes is a system that records conversations between Apple Store employees and customers at the Genius Bar, and then uses AI to transcribe and summarize the content. The resulting transcripts and summaries are stored in Apple's internal Genius Bar system as records of repairs and support interactions.
Traditionally, Genius Bar staff had to manually record details of their interactions with customers while gathering information about their symptoms and experiences. With Live Notes, some of the recording can be handled by AI, allowing staff to focus on explaining things to customers and confirming their issues rather than inputting information into a terminal.

To begin recording, both the employee and the customer must agree. Employees can also edit the AI-generated transcript and summary before saving it to the company's internal system. Apple reportedly explains to employees that it does not save the recorded audio itself, nor does it share the transcript with store managers.
On the other hand, some Apple Store employees have expressed concerns that the information collected by Live Notes may be used for training or performance evaluations in the future. At the time of writing, it is said that the system is designed so that managers cannot view the transcripts, but there are concerns that the use of the data and the operational policies may change after the trial run.
