According to a report by the Financial Times, Meta is developing a prototype of always-on AI glasses. These always-on AI glasses will reportedly have a 'super-sensing mode' that can continuously record audio and take photos every few seconds. Users can ask Meta's AI assistant, Meta AI, questions about the recorded audio and images.
According to the source, Meta will not store or provide users with the raw audio and image data recorded by the AI glasses. Instead, it will extract metadata from the audio and images and upload it to a server so that Meta AI can query it. Meta believes this allows them to maximize the use of their AI by keeping the camera running at all times while respecting the privacy of those around the user.
However, technology media outlet The Verge points out that the emergence of always-on AI glasses will undoubtedly raise serious privacy concerns. Meta is already aware of the concerns that the cameras in AI glasses 'could take photos and videos without the other person noticing.' Meta has explained the measures taken to prevent unauthorized recording in the AI glasses in order to address privacy concerns.

On the other hand, the Financial Times reported that Meta plans to turn off the LED indicator that shows the camera is recording when it is in 'super sensing mode,' which keeps the camera running continuously. In a white paper published by Meta in July 2025, it is clearly stated that 'the LED indicator that shows recording will not light up when using AI, and will only light up when saving photos and videos.'
Incidentally, Meta just announced its original AI glasses, 'Meta Glasses,' at the end of June 2026.
