Grok 4.5 is a base model with 1.5 trillion parameters that has been further trained on Cursor data and is currently in beta testing at SpaceX and Tesla.

Elon Musk posted an overview of Grok 4.5, an AI model developed by xAI, on X on June 28, 2026 (Japan time).

Grok is an AI model developed by xAI, a subsidiary of SpaceX , and is used in the Grok chat app, the AI chat function within X apps, and the Grok Build coding agent.

According to Musk, Grok 4.5 is based on the 'V9' foundational model with 1.5 trillion parameters, further trained using Cursor data. 'V9' likely refers to 'V9-Medium,' which was reported to have completed training on May 25, 2026, Japan time. Musk explained, 'The current Grok is built on 'v8-small,' which has 500 billion parameters, and the V9-based Grok represents a significant improvement. It shows particularly remarkable results in challenging coding tasks.' Cursor is an AI agent tool developed by Anysphere, and SpaceX announced an acquisition agreement with Anysphere, the developer of Cursor, on June 16, 2026.

According to a post by Musk on June 28, 2026, SpaceX and Tesla are conducting beta tests of Grok 4.5 internally, and initial evaluations indicate that it 'performs close to Claude Opus, and in some cases surpasses it.' However, it is unclear which version of Claude Opus this is being compared to. In addition, improvements are continuing through reinforcement learning, and the Grok Build harness is also being continuously improved.

Musk also stated that 'this year, a new model learned from scratch will be released every month from SpaceX.'

On April 8, 2026, Musk revealed that he was currently training 'version 2 of Imagine,' 'two AI models with 1 trillion parameters,' 'two AI models with 1.5 trillion parameters,' 'an AI model with 6 trillion parameters,' and 'an AI model with 10 trillion parameters.'
