Amazon MGM Studios has announced the 'GenAI Creators' Fund,' which will include the production of three animated series for Prime Video. These are 'Punky Duck,' directed by Jorge Gutierrez of ' The Book of Life' fame; 'Love, Diana Music Hunters, ' by Alby Hecht, former president of the children's programming channel Nickelodeon ; and 'Cupcake & Friends' by BuzzFeed Studios . As of the time of writing, the release dates for these series are yet to be determined.

Albert Chen, Chief Operating Officer of Amazon MGM Studios, told entertainment industry media outlet Variety, 'The most important thing is that it's human-centered. AI tools will enhance human creativity and make it possible to create TV shows and movies that were previously impossible.'

Chen has been hesitant to specify how much funding he will receive from the GenAI Creators' Fund. The grant will allow creators to produce pilot versions or short films for concept proof-of-concept purposes, and Amazon MGM Studios will then decide which of these works to approve as full-fledged projects.

Furthermore, Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly collaborating with non-animation studios through the GenAI Creators' Fund, and is involved in the production of live-action short films and other projects.

The AI production platform being developed in partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and AWS is called 'Project Nara,' and will be available only to creators selected for the GenAI Creators' Fund. Project Nara is described as a collaborative workspace that integrates the production tools and AI agents used by creators. It is built on a 'model-independent architecture,' combining the best available third-party video generation models with proprietary models, and features 'provenance tracking' to ensure the protection of intellectual property rights.

According to Chen, one of the common complaints creators have about AI is that 'it doesn't work the way you want it to.' Therefore, Amazon MGM Studios is 'transforming existing generative AI tools into tools that can be used in the industry,' he explained. Chen also described Project Nara as 'a tool aimed at reducing overall production costs and shortening production time.'

Heather Cooper, creative director at Prime Video, posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account, 'Finally, some of the projects we've been working on over the past year have been revealed,' expressing her delight at the announcement of the GenAI Creators' Fund and Project Nara.
