Are GIGAZINE readers cat people or dog people? We asked people about the pets they own.



GIGAZINE covers a variety of animal-related research, such as '

Cats meow more to male owners than female owners, ' ' Dogs have the ability to recognize human gestures from birth, ' and ' Rabbits may be getting calcium from their own teeth .' Assuming that many of GIGAZINE's readers are animal lovers, we conducted a survey to find out more about the pets our readers own.

First, let's look at the pet ownership rate among GIGAZINE readers. 20% of respondents said they own a pet, while 80% said they do not.



Next, we asked readers who answered that they own a pet what kind of pet they have. The most common pet among GIGAZINE readers is the cat (48.3%), followed by the dog (30.2%). Cats and dogs are practically synonymous with pets, and it seems that GIGAZINE readers are overwhelmingly cat lovers. Other common answers included 'reptiles' and 'fish,' so we plan to add these as answer options in the next survey.



Furthermore, the results of the question, 'Do you use any IoT devices related to pets, such as monitoring cameras, feeders, water dispensers, or AirTag?' are as follows. The most common answer was 'No' (37.8%), but other responses included monitoring cameras (27.7%), automatic water dispensers (12.9%), automatic feeders (11.0%), lost item trackers (4.9%), automatic litter boxes (3.0%), healthcare devices (2.1%), and collars with tracking functions (0.6%). Monitoring cameras were overwhelmingly the most used, likely due to their versatility, as they can be used with any pet, unlike automatic feeders, water dispensers, and litter boxes which may not be usable depending on the type of pet.



While IoT devices such as monitoring cameras and automatic litter boxes are gradually becoming more widespread in the pet industry, their usage rate among GIGAZINE readers is still low, making them a very attractive target audience.
