At the Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center, you can touch Jordan's red sand to your heart's content.

The Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center, located at the entrance to the Tottori Sand Dunes, serves as a tourist information center and a gateway to the dunes. It also provides a facility for learning about the Tottori Sand Dunes, and visitors can even touch actual sand samples from Jordan.

To get to the Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center, take the bus bound for 'Sand Dunes Hall' from Tottori Station; the journey takes a little over 20 minutes. There is also a parking lot adjacent to the center.

The exhibition area is on the second floor and includes panel displays that teach you about the history of the Tottori Sand Dunes, as well as interactive exhibits where you can actually learn about the type of sand used in the Tottori Sand Dunes.

Speaking of sand, there's the Pokémon Sandshrew, so there are also face-in-the-hole panels featuring Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew.

The town of 'Sakyumachi' in the picture book ' Kon to Aki ' is modeled after Tottori Prefecture, so a photo spot was set up there.

And what really stood out was the 'red sand of Jordan (Wadi Rum Desert).'

At the Osaka-Kansai Expo, Tottori Prefecture concluded the 'Sand Alliance' with the Jordan Pavilion to deepen their 'friendship connected by sand.'

As a symbol of friendship, a sand sculpture was created using sand from the Tottori Sand Dunes and sand from Wadi Rum.

The main exhibition room of the Jordan Pavilion was covered with sand from Wadi Rum, allowing visitors to sit in the desert and view a 360-degree screen showcasing the history of ancient Mesopotamian civilization. That same sand is now available at the visitor center.

Even to the naked eye, you can see that the sand is red.

Since the exhibit wasn't covered, I asked if I could touch it, and they said, 'Go ahead and touch it!' So I quickly put my hand in, and it felt smooth and soft to the touch, although I could feel a granular texture at my fingertips. In the same building, there were also exhibits of sand from the Tottori Sand Dunes and other locations, which made it interesting to compare them.

The Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center is also one of the bases for

the collaboration campaign between the anime 'Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World 4th Season' and Tottori Prefecture , so please take this opportunity to visit.

Please note that the completion prize, which was distributed to the first 1000 participants of the stamp rally, ran out around 2 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
