'Machi★Asobi vol.28' to be held on May 10th and 11th, 2025, returning in full format for the first time in a year and a half

Machi★Asobi, a large-scale subculture event held in Tokushima, will be revived as Machi★Asobi vol.28 on Saturday, May 10th and Sunday, May 11th, 2025. Machi★Asobi has previously been scaled down due to the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2021, and was postponed in spring and fall 2024 due to a rift between the government and the event organizers over the event's holding. This will be the first time the event will be held at its full scale in a year and a half since fall 2023.

It was decided early on that 'Demon Slayer: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba' would participate in this year's Machi Asobi. It was revealed that various events are planned throughout the venue, including a takeover of the 'Under the Bridge Museum.'

The 'Under the Bridge Museum' is an experiential exhibition event where you can view illustrations installed 'under' the bridge while cruising on a pleasure boat operating in Tokushima City, where the event is held. The water level changes depending on the time of boarding, so depending on the timing, you can see the whole bridge from a distance or a close-up view, so it's an event that you will never have the same experience twice.

'Machi★Asobi' started in October 2009 as a collaboration with the 'Mt. Bizan Summit Autumn Festival' held on Mt. Bizan, located about 10 minutes by ropeway from the center of Tokushima city.

In the beginning, it was held three times a year: in autumn (October), winter (January), and spring (April-May), but since 2012, it has been held twice a year, in spring and autumn. Instead, a smaller-scale event called 'Petit★Asobi' is now held in winter.

The event was canceled in spring 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but was revived in autumn 2020 as 'Challenge! Machi★Asobi,' focusing on remote broadcasts and rally events, without stage events with guest appearances.

It was then revived in full format as 'Machi★Asobi vol.25' in the fall of 2022.
However, in the spring of 2024, talks with the authorities could not be reached and the event was postponed, and when it was decided that the same would be true for the fall of 2024, a review was carried out, with the understanding that this was not acceptable, and in October 2024, 'Pre-Machi★Asobi' was held as a 'preparatory issue' for the next Machi★Asobi.

The kick-off meeting held in preparation for the event, which was attended by Tokushima Prefecture Vice Governor Murakami Koji, is reported in the article below.

After going through these events, Machi★Asobi will be revived in its full format once again in the spring of 2025.
