On March 26, 2026, Netflix announced a revision to its pricing plans, raising the prices of all its subscription plans.

Netflix offers three plans: 'Ad-supported Standard,' which includes ads; 'Standard,' which allows you to watch 1080p (Full HD) video content without ads; and 'Premium,' which allows you to watch content in 4K HDR.

The following shows how much the prices for each plan will increase. Plan prices in Japan remain unchanged as of the time of writing.

Standard with ads
United States: $7.99/month (approx. 1280 yen) → $8.99/month (approx. 1430 yen)
Japan: 890 yen per month

Standard
United States: $17.99/month (approx. 2870 yen) → $19.99/month (approx. 3190 yen)
Japan: 1590 yen per month

Premium
United States: $24.99/month (approx. 3990 yen) → $26.99/month (approx. 4310 yen)
Japan: 2290 yen per month

Incidentally, Netflix last raised its prices in January 2025. This increased subscription plan fees by up to 16%, but as a result, Netflix recorded a significant increase in revenue in the first quarter of 2025 (January-March).

Netflix has long justified its price increases by emphasizing the abundance of content available on its platform and how subscription fees can be used to invest in new projects. In its earnings call in January 2026, Netflix announced plans to increase its content investment from $18 billion (approximately 2.87 trillion yen) in 2025 to $20 billion (approximately 3.19 trillion yen) in 2026.

Incidentally, in March 2026, Amazon Prime Video, a competitor to Netflix, renamed its ad-free plan to 'Amazon Prime Video Ultra' and raised its monthly fee.
