AGI refers to AI that surpasses human intellectual capabilities in all fields. While some believe AGI is impossible to achieve, leading AI development companies are seriously committed to realizing it. For example, Microsoft has invested over 100 billion yen in OpenAI for AGI development, and Google co-founder Sergey Brin has stated that 'if we work on development for 60 hours a week in the office, Google can develop AGI and lead the industry.'
However, the definition of AGI varies from company to company. Google DeepMind defines AGI as 'an AI that has at least the same capabilities as a skilled adult in most cognitive tasks,' but it does not clearly define what constitutes a 'skilled adult' or how broad the scope of 'most cognitive tasks' should be. OpenAI, in its agreement with Microsoft to support AGI development, defines it using a financial metric: 'AGI will be considered achieved when the AI generates 15 trillion yen in profits.'

This lack of a consensus on AGI has led some technology leaders to lower the bar for its arrival. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated in December 2024, 'I predict that AGI will arrive sooner than most people around the world think, and its importance will be far less.'
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang also stated, 'I think we have achieved AGI,' when he appeared on computer scientist Rex Fridmann's podcast on March 23, 2026. In the podcast, Fridmann prefaced his remarks by saying, 'AGI is basically an AI system that can do your job,' and 'AGI can start, grow, and run successful technology companies worth more than $1 billion (approximately 150 billion yen),' before asking CEO Huang, 'When do you think AGI will become a reality?' To which CEO Huang replied, 'I think it's now. I think we have already achieved AGI.'

The podcast also mentions the explosive popularity of the AI agent platform OpenClaw. With AI agents enabling the creation of a steady stream of relatively high-quality services, and the rapid pace at which trends emerge and fade away, CEO Huang says, 'I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of social event occurs, or if a social application like feeding a Tamagotchi suddenly becomes a huge success. However, even if billions of people pay a few cents and generate billions of dollars in sales, the business can quickly fizzle out. At this point, the possibility of 100,000 such AI agents building a company like NVIDIA is 0%.' He suggests that even if AI reaches AGI, what it can build may only be a fleeting trend.
The podcast also touched upon NVIDIA's AI-powered upscaling technology, DLSS 5. DLSS 5 had been ridiculed by internet users for excessively altering characters in games, but CEO Huang explained, 'I understand their point of view, because I myself don't like the crude rendering of AI. However, DLSS 5 is meant to allow artists to create more beautiful things in the style they desire, and it's not just a matter of uniformly making things beautiful.'

On the social news site Hacker News, CEO Huang's remarks have also become a topic of discussion, with some criticizing his exaggerated use of the term AGI, referring to an AI agent that can automate tasks. On the other hand, some point out that podcast host Rex Friedman often uses exaggeration to attract attention , and others believe that CEO Huang was simply stating that the AGI goals specifically defined by Friedman in the conversation have 'already been achieved.'
