In late February 2026, Anthropic was under pressure from the US Department of Defense to remove the safeguards it had put in place for Claude. First, Claude will make its 'Memory' feature, which was previously available for a fee, available to free plan users. Claude's Memory feature saves information such as past conversations with users, settings, and preferences, and reflects them in future interactions.

Another update is the addition of new prompts and dedicated tools for importing data from third-party AI chatbots. Anthropic says importing data into Claude takes less than a minute.

With these two new features, free Claude users will be able to instantly import the context they enter into another AI chatbot, without having to re-teach Claude their preferences and background information.

Claude's memory function and memory import function can be accessed from the 'Functions' tab in 'Settings'.
