Batteries deteriorate with each charge and discharge, and over time the amount of energy they can store decreases. This deterioration accelerates when you charge them to 100% and then completely use them up, so it is considered good to keep the battery below 100%. Some electronic devices have a function that allows you to set a battery limit.

For iPhones,

iOS 17 added a feature to limit charging to 80%, and iOS 18 now allows you to change the limit in 5% increments from 80%.

On Mac, a similar feature was available in the ' Optimized Battery Charging ' setting, which delays charging after reaching 80% capacity. However, unlike the iPhone, the upper limit cannot be set to an arbitrary value, and some users have been calling for the addition of a feature similar to that of the iPhone.

The new charging limit setting allows you to set the battery limit for devices such as MacBooks to any value between 80% and 100% in 5% increments.

According to 9to5mac, you can enable it in the Battery settings. Also, in macOS 26.4 and iOS 26.4, the charging limit setting has been added to the Shortcuts settings.
